Dr. Susan’s Girls-Only Weight Loss Guide
Shopping for clothes with my daughter is
Usually relaxing and fun-she's easy to fit and has great taste.
Something I dread-we fight about what fits her and she usually ends up crying and furious with me.
Somewhat uncomfortable-she'd like to buy clothes that would flatter a slimmer figure and gets upset with me when I suggest alternatives.
Compared to other girls her age, my daughter's body is
A little heavier than it should be.
Just right or a little underweight.
Much heavier than it should be.
My daughter's attitude toward eating and exercise
Is very poor-she overeats, consumes lots of junk food and rarely exercises.
Could be better-she sometimes tries to eat healthily, but it doesn't last too long.
Is terrific-she usually eats healthily and she is involved in regular physical activity or sports.
While she does homework, watches TV or uses the computer, my daughter will
Almost always eat a meal or a snack.
Hardly ever eat-she usually keeps eating separate from these activities
Sometimes eat.
My daughter's favorite type of exercise is
Running, dancing, a team sport... she loves to keep moving.
Yoga, Pilates, stretching... she prefers not to sweat too much.
Trying to convince herself (and me) that she is exercising, when we both know she isn't.
When my daughter goes out to eat she usually
Orders an appetizer, a main course and dessert and eats it all.
Shares an appetizer, refuses the bread basket and asks to have her leftovers wrapped up.
Eats a healthy meal and then an enormous dessert.
My daughter eats when she's hungry and
When she's socializing around food.
When she's happy, sad, angry, excited, anxious, scared or worried.
Not really at any other time.
Compared to the rest of the family my daughter is
Much heavier than most members.
About the same-we're all a bit overweight.
About the same-we're all a healthy weight.
The last time my daughter went for a check-up, the doctor
Told her to watch what she eats and try to lose a little weight.
Said she was in excellent health and to keep it up.
Explained that she really needs to lose weight beginning immediately.
When my daughter walks or runs she
Might get a little out of breath, but is able to do it without too much trouble.
Hardly ever makes it without stopping, gasping for breath or collapsing.
Gets out of breath, but can finish if she pushes hard.
